As such, I am required by Apple's rules for these discussions to include the following disclaimer. While the information is free, it does ask for a contribution. The link, or one of the links above directs you to my personal web site. See section 4 of my article,įont Management in OS X to see how to do it. The only way to correct the problem is to remove Apple's supplied fonts so you can activate your preferred versions. dfonts in the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder. The dozen or so fonts are tucked into the two Helvetica. Is there any way to remove just those dozen or so fonts from my user fonts so that the versions that aren't listed will work? Since the System fonts always get precedence, they will always prevent you from opening the versions you need. Internal names as your older PostScript versions. It would happen regardless since the Leopard supplied versions have the identical If I were to get updated versions of these fonts, would that eliminate the conflict, or is it going to happen regardless? I wasn't really expecting it to help much, but it also wouldn't hurt a thing to toss font cache files, so I suggested it anyway. I trashed the things in the jaws folder, and relaunched Quark, but there was no change the original fonts looked the same, and the doc wouldn't print. Or being five pages short, whichever way the reflow is causing text to move. Like the last five pages of the book disappearing as their suddenly isn't room in your text boxes for the font. But if you've got for example, a 200 page book, differences in leading, baseline shift, kerning and other type attributes may cause text to reflow badly. If the text in your standing documents is pretty light, you may not notice anything. So as you can see, you're covered for Neue Bold Condensed using the Apple font. If I use the Apple fonts instead of my older PostScript fonts, will the Apple fonts provide the variations that I had with my PostScript ones? It will build new cache files for the fonts you have open. Go to the /Applications/QuarkXPress 6.0/jaws/ folder. The pixelation is probably coming from a mismatch between the version of Helvetica that's active (Apple's) and the original. Apple's Helvetica fonts are already active, which means you can't activate the ones you used originally with your Quark documents. Because of that, the docs won't print or do anything, but when i changed the fonts to be one of the system's Helvetica Neue fonts, it prints fine. I upgraded a few days ago to Leopard, and found that my Helvetica Neue fonts were pixelated on my existing Quark documents. If you can help me better with more info, feel free to ask. It makes the apps look a bit weird.ĭo I have to deal with this weird last option to work with my Type 1 font or is there a way to have both fonts activated, and be SURE the system uses the Apple's version for apps? Like is there a folder in which I could place my Type 1 font so FontBook (the Apple's font manager) will consider his TrueType font to be THE one to use for apps? Now, I tried to switch from Apple's TrueType to any Type 1 or OpenType font simply by replacing the font in the user/Library/Fonts folder (I read this was possible to do, so I tried it), but it causes some applications to have their Helvetica Neue typing a little higher above the usual baseline than it's supposed to be. Can you imagine what it does to a layout if I let the Apple's version to override my Type 1 I'm used to work with? It wouldn't be so much of a problem if the fonts were REALLY the same: I noticed the one from Apple has a baseline set to be about 15% or 20% lower than my Type 1 version. The problem is mainly because I use a very elaborated Helvetica Neue Type 1 font for a customer (I'm a graphic designer) and it creates a font conflict problem with the one included and used by Mac OSX Leopard.

Power supply pins: The 5V output pin can supply ~400-500mA when powered by USB and ~900-1000mA when using an external power adapter. If we exceed these values, we could damage our Arduino board or the underlying microcontroller (the ATmega328 for the Uno or the ATmega32u4 for the Leonardo) The total current across all I/O pins together is 200mA. I/O Pins: The maximum current draw of any single I/O pin-which we haven’t used yet but we will in the next lesson-is 40 mA (a safer, continuous range is ~20mA). The Arduino has a variety of pin types, each with their own maximum current ratings. Is this a lot or a little? Let’s put this in context below. So, with the 5V supply pin, our circuit is drawing 13.6mA of current. To do this, we first need to determine the voltage drop across the resistor \(V_R\) and then use Ohm’s Law to figure out the current (\(I = \frac = 0.014A = 13.6mA\] Just as we did in our LED lesson, let’s analyze how much current is flowing through this simple LED-based circuit. The Arduino’s internal voltage regulator reduces these higher voltages to output a clean 5V Using the Arduino’s barrel jack, we can connect an external power supply like a 7-12V wall adapter or a 9V battery. Either way, the Arduino supplies 5V through the 5V pin. I found it easier to stretch the wiring across the Arduino from the 5V port to the GND on the opposite side.įor power, you can use a USB cable (which supplies 5V) or a 9V battery (which supplies 9V). Now connect your Arduino to power and the LED should light up. Insert the LED + resistor into the Arduino: the LED’s cathode (short leg) to GND and the LED’s anode (long leg) + resistor to the Arduino’s voltage supply, which you can access via the 5V pin. An example of wire wrapping a 220Ohm resistor leg (or lead) directly around the anode of an LED Step 2: Connect components to Arduino To wire wrap your components, simply twist the legs together like this: (Remember, a current limiting resistor can go on either side of an LED, see our LED lesson). If you want to follow my example exactly, connect the resistor to the LED’s anode (long leg) but either leg will work. Grab a 220Ω resistor (or any resistor 220Ω or greater) and twist one leg around an LED leg. Hook up LED to Arduino’s 5V supply pin Step 1: Wrap resistor around LED leg Each of these boards have the same pin layout and general specifications. We’ll be using the Arduino Leonardo for these introductory microcontroller lessons but any 5V board will work, including the Arduino Uno, Adafruit’s METRO 328, Sparkfun’s RedBoard, etc. For those students enrolled in our courses, please document your creation journeys in your prototyping journals and attempt to answer and reflection on posed questions. See our Introduction to Electronics series, specifically the lesson on Voltage, Current, and Resistance. A more accurate visualization would show that electrons are already distributed throughout a wire before a voltage is applied. This visualization is a coarse abstraction designed to emphasize the direction of current flow. Instead, our goal is to build some initial familiarity with Arduino hardware and connecting components to Arduino pins before we introduce programming, which we do in the next lesson.įigure The movement of current in the circuit is illustrated by the animated yellow circles. The way OP has decided to setup their budget workbook will eventually lead to unused formulas in the past and far future months, depending on how many months past and future they choose to maintain. OP’s workbook is currently setup for each month containing its own tab, and eventually putting all of the data in an ever growing “raw data” will eventually become untenable. Just conservatively estimate the amount, divide it by 12, and book it in the accruals when the paycheck arrives.īut of course, accruals aren't the only way to deal with these problems, especially since your personal finance spreadsheet doesn't have to comply with any accounting standard. They invoice you once a year, and while that amount can be perfectly anticipated and saved up for, most people are taken by suprise when the bill arrives. Also, where I'm from, taxes are not taken out of your salary automatically. I don't want any particular month to be overproportionally impacted, I also don't want A/P to get clogged up with something that isn't due any time soon. However, some services and subscriptions only charge you once a year for the whole year. A/P is discounted from my "available spending cash" KPI. Take invoices and credit card charges for example. Not all transactions immediately take away money from your bank account. One of the key reasons I'm tracking my finances in the first place is to have an exact idea how much spending cash I actually have. So if you're comfortable with double-entry bookkeeping, it's not as overkill as you might think. I see what you mean, but technically accruals just require another set of expense and liability accounts. Maintain one source in a datatable and let Excel functionality do the rest. using a pivot table, that pulls the data and automatically separates your months into columns etc. Then from that data, you can create a second sheet, e.g. Each posting should have a date, amount, description and an account (in double-entry bookkeeping you would use two accounts, debit and credit). This one I would recommend regardless of your skill level with accounting or Excel: Make one table with the raw data and then draw whatever summary or analysis you need from that and put it on another sheet.Admittedly, this will probably be too complex if you don't have any knowledge or interest in accounting, but if you do, it will give you much greater flexibility on what you can do with your personal finances (e.g., different current asset accounts for different budgets, making accruals, keeping tabs on accounts payables/receivables etc.) If you have some beginner accounting knowledge, I would suggest using double-entry bookkeeping.Like I said, this represents what I am looking for, but just mostly want input on Functionality!! I am very VERY new to budgeting this way and am trying. I have had others comment on how terrible this setup is. I'm not sure what I think about the charts yet. My weekly income on each Expense sheet: I would have to manually fill this formula for each month as far as I can tell to refer to the correct weekly income on the Income sheet. I am hoping to set up an account for these expenses alone. The Expense sheets with Envelopes include the amount paid per person, by week, total per month, and a running total through the months for each category that is less the amount spent per month. So far I am thinking of a sheet for each month, which can be difficult with all the formulas for a newbie like me. I am most curious about how to do this where I can have monthly sheets reflecting my envelope style and actual spending. I have created a workbook that fits the way I think about things for the most part. They are identifiable with a special user flair.Ī community since MaAsking a question? Paralysis ticks’ salivary glands produce neurotoxins – a toxin that affects the nervous system – which can lead to paralysis and death if not treated quickly. Paralysis ticks are the ticks we’re most worried about in Australia as their bite can be fatal. What Type Of Ticks Bite Dogs? Paralysis Ticks It is unlikely that you will be able to see the tick’s mouth as that is inserted under the skin. You may be able to see the tick’s legs along the sides of its body. The area aroun d the tick may be red and/or swollen and the size of the tick’s body varies depending on how engorged (full of blood) it is. What Does A Tick Look Like On A Dog?Ī tick’s body can look like a brown or grey-ish coloured bump on the dog’s skin. The three types of ticks of most concern to dog owners are the paralysis tick, the bush tick, and the brown dog tick. In Australia, we have many different species of ticks, although most are hard bodied ticks. Different types of ticks prefer different hosts. Ticks are a type of arachnid that feed on the blood of mammal hosts. With potentially fatal outcomes after a bite, it’s important to know what ticks are, how to identify them, and what you can do to prevent them. Ticks are a reasonable concern for pet parents around Australia, particularly in the warmer months. They parasitize their host animals particularly around the ears in large numbers causing ulceration, which may lead to secondary infections, loss of blood and hearing.Ticks On Dogs Guide: Tick Identification & Bite Symptoms The spinose ear ticks are not known to transmit any diseases to livestock and other animals. Throughout the year, depending on the location but peaking around the warm months. The nymphs are shaped somewhat like a violin with rear facing spines – therefore the name. Their body shape is irregular, and the mouthparts are not visible when observed from the top. The spinose ear ticks are soft-bodied, and unlike the other commonly found tick species in the region they do not have a hard, dorsal shield or scutum. The adults are found off-host in dry, protected places, cracks and crevices under decaying wood and organic matter. They are often found in high numbers on host animals. The spinose ear ticks are usually found around their hosts, which include cattle, horses, sheep, goats, and dogs. However, these ticks are found worldwide, and are able to survive in many different climatic conditions. Their ability to survive for longer periods in areas other than their native range is yet to be determined. The spinose ear tick is found primarily in the arid and semiarid parts of the southwestern United States, but they can turn up in any part of the country due to livestock movement. These ticks are also potentially capable of transmitting other pathogens that cause Lyme disease, spotted fever, ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis. The adults and nymphs are reddish, reddish-brown in color and the larvae are small, pale yellow to red in color.Īctivity time: Likely during the normal tick season, April through August.ĭiseases they may transmit: The East Asian or longhorned ticks transmit theileriosis to cattle, and severe fever thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTSV). However, they lack some of the bodily colorations that are common to the ticks in this area. Identifying characteristics: The East Asian or longhorned ticks are similar in size and appearance to the other common ticks in Kansas. However, their ability to survive local conditions will highly vary. Due to high volumes of livestock trade and transport across the country, this tick could turn up in any part of the country, including Kansas in the near-future. This tick was first identified in North America in a New Jersey sheep farm in 2017, and they have been since confirmed to be present in Virginia, W. If you observe a tick that looks like the picture below, please contact the Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory Client Care at or 86 for advice.ĭistribution: The East Asian or longhorned tick is not known to be present in Kansas as of June 2018. The other ticks listed on this page are commonly found in Kansas. At this time it is unknown if this tick transmits other animal or human diseases under field conditions in its native range. Laboratory studies have evaluated the competency of this tick for various pathogens including Lyme spirochetes, spotted fever group rickettsiae, Ehrlichia chaffeensis and Anaplasma bovis however, the results are mixed. In its native range, these ticks are known to transmit theileriosis to cattle, and severe fever thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTSV) in humans. It has not been found in Kansas or anywhere in the Central Midwest. Recently, a tick species, the East Asian or Longhorned tick, that has never previously established a population in the US has been found in four states: New Jersey, Virginia, West Virginia and Arkansas.
